Freight Strategy for the South West
The freight strategy will feed into, and provide invaluable evidence, for our full transport strategy. We have produced two documents relating to the freight strategy: the executive summary and the full strategy.
It has been jointly developed with Western Gateway Sub-national Transport Body, and by engaging with, freight sector and wider business community and local authority stakeholders. Working together we have been able to identify and prioritise solutions that will help to improve freight efficiency and modal shift, reduce freight journey times, congestion, carbon emissions and support economic growth across the South West region.
The strategy sets a pathway to a more efficient and sustainable freight sector, looking at various challenges to the freight network and setting out a number of proposed solutions across all modes and key themes:
- Connectivity
- Decarbonisation
- Information and awareness
- Infrastructure
- Operational efficiency
- Technology
A South West Freight Steering Group has now met for the first time and will continue to work collaboratively with our public and private stakeholders to drive the strategy forwards.
