Freight Strategy for the South West

The Freight Strategy provides essential evidence to support our wider Transport Strategy. Two documents are available — the Executive Summary and the Full Strategy.

Jointly developed with the Western Gateway Sub-national Transport Body, the strategy was shaped through engagement with the freight sector, business community, and local authorities. Together, we have identified and prioritised solutions to:

• Improve freight efficiency and support modal shift

• Reduce journey times and congestion

• Cut carbon emissions

• Drive economic growth across the South West

The strategy sets a clear pathway to a more efficient and sustainable freight sector, tackling challenges across the network and proposing solutions under six key themes:

• Connectivity

• Decarbonisation

• Information and awareness

• Infrastructure

• Operational efficiency

• Technology

To drive delivery, the South West Freight Steering Group has now been established and will continue to work collaboratively with public and private stakeholders to take the strategy forward.
