Easier Journeys

Simplifying public transport across the peninsula will make journeys quicker, easier, and more user-friendly.

We’re working to deliver an integrated transport system designed around the needs of passengers. Our goal is to make travel simple and accessible, while improving active travel links with the bus and rail network.

To achieve this, we’re focusing on:

  • One central place for travel information

  • Integrated ticketing that works across all types of transport

  • Consistent standards across the peninsula

  • Seamless connections that make switching between buses, trains, and other transport effortless

Coaches

We’re committed to making coach travel a more attractive and convenient choice as part of a better-connected regional transport network. Our Coach Action Plan sets out the steps needed to improve services across the region while identifying quick wins that can deliver immediate benefits. Working closely with our member authorities, we’re also raising the profile of the coach industry and improving connectivity for passengers.

To support this, we’ve launched the Peninsula Transport’s Online Coach Forum — a collaborative space that brings together operators, partners, and stakeholders from across the South West to shape the future of coach travel. The forum is open to everyone with an interest in coach services, giving you the chance to share ideas and help drive real regional progress.

We have also launched the Peninsula Transport Coach Parking Portal, the first of its kind in the southwest. Please see below for the interactive map, which details coach parking spots and stations.

Integrated Ticketing

A single ticket that works across all types of transport will save passengers both time and money — while making journeys far simpler. Midlands Connect, in partnership with the Department for Transport, Project Coral, and Transport for the West Midlands, is already developing a nationwide integrated ticketing scheme for buses.

Building on this progress, we’re taking a network-wide approach within the peninsula, covering both urban and rural services, and exploring the creation of a single ticket that works across bus, coach, and rail travel. To support this, we’ll soon be launching an Integrated Ticketing Stakeholder Forum to bring partners together and help shape the future of seamless travel in our region.

Rural Mobility

Rural Mobility Strategy

Around 17% of people in England live in rural areas — but in the South West, that figure rises to 33%. To address the unique challenges this presents, we’ve developed the South West Rural Mobility Strategy in partnership with the Western Gateway Sub-national Transport Body. This strategy sets out a shared vision for transforming rural mobility and delivering better, more accessible transport options for the communities that need them most

Prospectus for Pilot Projects

As part of our work on the South West Rural Mobility Strategy, Peninsula Transport and Western Gateway Sub-national Transport Bodies have identified a strong case for launching a programme of rural mobility pilot projects across the region.

Through this prospectus, we are jointly committing up to £100,000 of new funding (£50,000 each) to support a second round of pilot schemes. These pilots form part of our ambition to create a longer-term programme, with the potential for further funding in future years.
