National Highways works on the A38 Saltash Tunnel are progressing to schedule and the civi engineering phase of the programme is expected to finish at the end of August.

This work includes the completion of the four new concrete gantry bases near the tunnel, and the erection of steel gantries onto the bases for large information signs 9m tall. There has also been some minor works around small sign foundations on site.

From September, the technology installation will continue in and around the tunnel, under overnight closures on weeknights only.

As part of National Highways’ programme of works, they will also be switching off the green arrow and red cross signs in and around the tunnel on Monday 28 July.

Additional signage in the area indicates which lanes are available and variable message signs in the wider area give live information about any changes or events in the area.

Please plan ahead and allow extra time for your journeys while these essential upgrade works take place.
