Rural areas deserve to be put on the map. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce that we’re helping to fund innovative transport pilots aimed at improving low-carbon, inclusive, and accessible mobility across rural communities in the South West.
Together with our neighbouring STB, Western Gateway, we are funding a total of £100,000 to support the development of rural mobility pilot schemes. By doing so, we aim to address key challenges like sustainability, connectivity, decarbonisation and accessibility (to name a few), making them more liveable communities. In the Peninsula Transport region, one scheme was selected to receive part of this funding.
The Bodmin & Lanivet Rural Community Bus Scheme is a pilot project to create a sustainable community-led transport network. Coordinating three community buses, it will deliver regular, reliable routes and hireable services to connect rural villages, local amenities and key services in the vicinity of Bodmin. The funding will enable a full-time coordinator to be employed to run the service. It is intended that the scheme will go some way to address rural mobility challenges, reduce the reliance on private vehicles, and promote the use of equitable low carbon transport.
We look forward to sharing the progress of this pilot scheme in coming months.
