About us

Sub-national Transport Bodies (STBs) play a vital role in shaping the future of transport across regions. By bringing together local authorities and stakeholders, they provide a strong, unified regional voice. For the Southwest, Peninsula Transport ensures our unique challenges and opportunities are heard—championing better connectivity, sustainable travel, and economic growth. Working collaboratively, we secure the infrastructure our communities need to thrive and make the Southwest a better-connected, more resilient place to live and work.

The partnership works directly with the Department for Transport and also involves Network Rail, National Highways and Homes England.

We are also working closely with our neighbouring STB, Western Gateway who look at transport priorities for the northern and eastern areas of the wider South West region, to align areas of common interest and cross boundary issues.

Our vision for the peninsula is to: transform transport across the peninsula, enabling our society and economy to thrive and our unique and outstanding environment to flourish.

What is Peninsula Transport's Role?

Sub-national Transport Bodies were established as part of the Cities and Local Government Act 2016. Our role is to guide and advise government on our regional transport priorities and investment by producing and then maintaining a regional transport strategy. Our work is aimed at enhancing strategic cross-boundary connectivity and complements the work of our local authorities to enhance local connectivity.
