The announcement by the Prime Minister of a new funding package to improve bus services, enhance cycle links and level up infrastructure across the UK has been warmly welcomed by Peninsula Transport.

Cllr Geoff Brown, Chair of Peninsula Transport said: “We welcome the additional focus by the government on bus services, particularly in the SW which is a largely rural area with limited rail connectivity. As yet the additional funding is not clear but hopefully it will help the SW to enhance bus service delivery and promote a modul shift from the car towards public transport thereby helping to address climate change issues. Schemes such as the fares pilot being introduced in to Cornwall will go a long way to making bus travel accessible to all and help those on low incomes access employment.
“As for levelling up rail infrastructure in the SW, the key priority remains the safe-guarding and improvement of the mainline through Dawlish which is critical to the economy of the peninsula. We are also looking for improvements to branchline services and the alternative Exeter to Waterloo line to increase frequency and reliability of services. The cost to deliver these improvements is a fraction of the money being invested in to HS2.”
